There’s something so special about a winter wedding, but it takes a certain kind of venue to make it a truly magical occasion. Here at The HAC we have four spaces which are licenced to hold weddings and civil partnerships, each one with its own charms and merits when it comes to nuptials held in the colder months of the year. Read on to find out why our couples choose our historic venue and how we help make their big day one to remember…
Warmth
Being cold makes people miserable, particularly if they know there’s nothing they can do about it for an entire afternoon and evening. Despite being an 18th-century manor house (in which three of our wedding spaces reside) Armoury House is always toasty warm in winter, ensuring your guests can totally relax and enjoy themselves. Our fourth space, The Prince Consort Rooms, is a contemporary venue with all of the heating and air-con mod cons anyone with bare arms or legs could wish for.
Lighting
Without the long summer evenings, winter wedding venues run the risk of feeling dark and a bit gloomy as the sun goes down. Soft lighting and candles in the Armoury House spaces ensure the rooms are far from glum and add a touch of magic to proceedings. The state-of-the-art, in-built lighting system in the Prince Consort Rooms also makes it easy to create a romantic feel, whatever the weather and light are doing outside.
Colour palette
The Long Room, our largest space in the main house, offers a backdrop awash with deep reds and rich mahogany hues - the perfect setting for a winter, maybe even festive, celebration. Similarly the other two wedding venues in Armoury House and the stunning staircase (often used for photographs) provide some striking yellows, opulent blues and even a colourful stain glass window – all fabulous starting points for winter wedding colour themes. In contrast, The Prince Consort Rooms offers couples a complete blank canvas onto which they can create their own vision – a winter wonderland, perhaps?
Views
Whatever time of year you choose to get married, the views over the Artillery Garden are a very special touch you and your guests will love. And of course, a winter wedding holds the very real possibility of the ultimate winter weather, snow. The HAC looks simply amazing covered in a layer of the bright, white stuff.
Catering
Our in-house caterers know how to provide a comfort food menu without filling your guests too full to enjoy the dancing later on at your wedding. Sourcing seasonal ingredients also means every dish is full of flavour and in keeping with a winter theme. Our kitchens and Wedding Team also really enjoy putting together fun and delicious cocktail menus with warming ciders, mulled wines and seasonal twists on classic recipes.
Flowers
Winter blooms are a huge part of dressing your wedding venue and a great way to connect your special day to what’ going on outside. Succulents, amaryllis, ranunculus, orchids and roses are all popular choices for couples tying the knot in the winter, but the options are vast. We work with some of the best florists in London, so you can be sure you’re in safe hands.
