We appreciate that running an historic venue in the City of London might make us appear a little biased, but honestly, hand on heart, we truly believe that the City of London is one of the best places in the UK, maybe even the world, to hold a large, corporate event.
Let’s start with some obvious advantages. Firstly, transport. The City of London, also known as the Square Mile, is served by seven London Underground lines which stop at eight different stations. This means that visitors are never far from a quick and easy way to get back to their hotel, or home, if they live in or around London.
The City of London also has its own airport, London City Airport, as well as other, larger airports around the periphery of the capital, namely Heathrow, Gatwick, Stanstead and Luton. All of the airports are attached to the London transport system via Underground or National Rail stations offering your international and airborne domestic visitors a variety of routes into your event.
Among the other practical reasons the City is a great choice for organisers, is the fact that it makes up a large part of the capital’s Central Business District. Every year, some 10 million people visit the Square Mile, many of them here on business. If you want to entice delegates to your event, then hosting it in an area in which they’ll be able to catch up with other contacts or clients is sure to prove a big pulling factor.
As well as all the logistical benefits of hosting events in the City, it’s also worth considering the history and beauty of place. From Roman times, through to the Anglo Saxon era, medieval times and beyond, the City of London’s history can be seen on every street and corner. This means that your guests will have a fascinating journey when they are walking to your venue, (albeit short a one, due to the abundance of tube stations).
It's not just the City’s older buildings that impress visitors, the Square Mile boasts some of the country’s most iconic structures including Sky Garden, The Gherkin and The Leadenhall Building. Contemporary high rises sprouting up through buildings or ruins which might be hundreds, maybe even thousands of years old, makes the City a truly unique place and one that attendees will remember for a long time.
The City might be famous for its buildings, but one of our more surprising attractions is the large, green, open spaces, often hidden away in the most unlikely of places. Lots of older buildings have beautiful, public parks within their grounds and some private event venues have outdoor space you can hire when you book your conference, summer party or other large, corporate event. The HAC, for example, sits on a five-acre plot with lush, green lawns, large enough on which to play rugby and cricket matches.
If you’re hosting a conference over a number of days, it’s good to know that the City is home to dozens of fabulous, world-class restaurants and wine bars. So, if your schedule allows delegates downtime to
explore the local area, you can rest assured they’ll be spoilt for choice for eateries and watering holes. The Square Mile is also awash with fabulous shopping opportunities including big brands, designer boutiques and independent retail outlets.
The southern edge of the Square Mile borders on the north bank of a section of the River Thames. As well as the river being an iconic London landmark, it’s also a great place for entertainment with lots of cruises and moored boats serving food and drinks.
So, if you’re looking to host your next event somewhere that’s easy to get to, beautiful to look at and full of great places to eat and drink, then the City is the perfect choice for your next project.
Like the City of London itself, The HAC is a perfect combination of new meets old with a dash of green thrown in for good measure. It’s made up of three, distinct London venues; Armoury House, a Georgian manor house with its six spaces crammed with charm and period features, the Prince Consort Rooms, an ultra-modern, re-purposed drill hall, great for conferences and dinner dances and lastly, the Artillery Gardens which are primarily used for sports matches and team-building away days.
