As 2022 comes to a close and the plans for 2023 events are in the works, we look forward to all the new year has to bring in the world of events. However, one burning question remains: What are the predicted trends for events in 2023?
Sustainability
One of the most important trends for 2023 is sustainability. It should now be an integral part of a business’s strategy.
As part of the events industry, we have been prioritising sustainability in many ways, including working with our supply chain partners to ensure we are reducing our carbon output as much as possible.
There are several ways in which you can demonstrate your commitment to sustainability at your event. Consider areas that have the highest impact on carbon reduction first for your event; such as catering by using seasonal, local produce & providing plant-based options (our award-winning caterer, Searcys, pledged their dedication to sustainable practices in 2018).
Encouraging your delegates to use eco-friendly transport is also key, you can achieve this by sharing more eco-friendly journey details ahead of the event to give attendance guidance. Including hybrid options enables delegates from far-flung locations or those who prefer not to travel to attend your event virtually. Explore digital event branding options and reusable or biodegradable utensils to help become a paperless, plastic-free, and overall, more environmentally friendly event.
Experience-First Events
We’re sure you’ve noticed brands are starting to host pop-ups, creating conference series, and even holding events in a virtual reality format. We will only see more of this innovation for events in 2023.
When you hold events, you want to get the best return on investment for your efforts and financial input - the best way to ensure this is by focusing on making the attendee experience your key focus. A good place to start is by defining the wants and needs of your attendees in your event brief. This research will give insight into what resonates with your audience, helping you to decide which elements will create the most memorable experience according to your event type and theme.
Experiential marketing isn’t a new concept. However, it’s gained a lot of traction in 2022 and will continue to do so in 2023. This is for several reasons, including that purchasing enriching experiences is now highly valued. More so over tangible goods. With the catalytic rise of social media, shareable content has experience at its core.
Event Tech
Consistent technology advancements and high-quality hybrid events are now a mainstay part of the events landscape. Rising living costs along with a steep increase in flight prices mean the hybrid event format is almost an essential component to the offering of most venues. This year has also seen an increase in the use of other forms of technology that are gaining popularity and becoming more accessible.
Many organisers and event planners are using virtual and/or augmented reality to create show-stopping events where guests experience scenes and become immersed in settings that would not be possible in previous years. Not only do these forms of technology contribute to making events highly engaging, but they also mean that in-person and online attendees can share similar experiences, with some organisers incorporating initiatives accessible through guests’ mobile devices. Another great benefit of using event tech is the opportunity for mass data capture and lead generation - leading to better ROI for events. The AR and VR industry is set to grow by over 25% in the next two years.
In-person Events
According to the 2023 Amex Global Event Trends Forecast, the market shows ‘booming optimism and focus on in-person meetings and events'. This research demonstrates the value of experiencing in-person events. There is a desire for in-person networking, learning, and development and to experience the richness that live events naturally provide.
With 2023 set to see a heavy focus on the return to in-person events, many venues have refurbished and improved their offering, with structural and technological upgrades in place to keep pace with the expectations of event venues.
